Spaceport Karoo

“Spaceport Karoo” signifies the passion that Rogge Cloof Private Nature Reserve holds for the Karoo Skies. Sutherland Dark Sky Reserve is South Africa’s first and largest Dark Sky Reserve and aims to preserve the Karoo night sky darkness.

Located close to the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) and SALT (Southern Africa Large Telescope) Rogge Cloof is located in prime stargazing territory and spans an area of over 20 000 hectares.

The Plains at Rogge Cloof has rightly earned the name ‘Star Plains’ through the experiences and words of our guests: ‘The sky has never been so close’, ‘a truly unique stargazing destination’, ‘the stars have never been this spectacularly bright and visible all-round’,

Rogge Cloof is a Spaceport to experience the greatest heavens on earth!
